Sunday Scoop {8.30.15}

The Sunday Scoop is based on the popular 3-2-1 graphic organizers so many of us use with our students. Tell us three things you HAVE to do, two things you HOPE to do, and one thing you're HAPPY to do. If this is your first time linking up, check out all the details on our Sunday Scoop page, then link up below!

Here's the Scoop on my week...
Must Do:
EEEK! We go back to school on Tuesday. I have the general idea of what I am doing each day, but my schedule just changed... so now I need to figure it out for sure.

With Frankie (our pug) all healed up, he got his stitches out a few days ago. They wanted us to wait 2-4 days before bathing... well... time is up! This stinky dog needs a bath!

Laundry. The most dreaded thing every single week. I tell myself that one week I will do the laundry a little at a time rather than leaving it all for one day... but it never happens!

Hope to Do:
Our elementary school is considered a focus school. Basically, we (our district) will be writing practice profiles for the next 3 years to hopefully close the achievement gap. At the end of last year, we achieved 80% success rate with our first practice profile which focused on learning targets. Our district just announced our next practice profile: interactive notebooks. We are diving head in by choosing one subject as a grade level. My fourth grade team decided to focus on Math since we already do a variation for reading with our series. So, I have been super busy creating an interactive notebook to use as a guide throughout the year. Here goes nothing!

Let's face it. We all get teacher tired in the first week of school. I am going to try super hard to get a little extra sleep tonight and tomorrow night before school on Tuesday!

Happy to Do:
Yep. Time to relax!!!

What’s New on ClassDojo? {Tech Thursday}

Technology Thursday is a weekly linky dedicated to all things technology related. Check out our Tech Thursday page for details on how to link up!

ClassDojo is one of my all-time favorite classroom websites. I use it more than any other. Today, I ‘m not going to go into a lot of detail about the site, because we’ve already blogged about it here.
Today, I’m super excited to share with you the two newest ClassDojo features…

Yes, that says GROUPS! Now you can easily create groups within your class to award table points, boys vs. girls points, etc. This is probably one of the most-wished-for features in my teacher circle, and it’s finally here! I love that I can put the same student into more than one group, so I can really be flexible with how I use them and when I give points.

 Class Story is a really cool feature that will make it easy to keep parents connected and share what’s going on in the classroom. It will look and feel a lot like your “wall” on a certain social media network, but with some very important differences just for the classroom setting: 1) Parents and students can “like” your posts by clicking the heart, but they cannot comment on them. 2) Everything is private and secure. (ClassDojo is FERPA & COPPA compliant.)

I plan to use Class Story for photos from class, homework, sending links to parents, reminders about events and projects, and shout-outs for student of the month and birthdays.

If you ever need help with anything Dojo, don’t hesitate to reach out to us… there are a couple of ClassDojo mentors here who are happy to help!

Link up below with your own Website or App recommendations, Tech Tips, Tutorials, or anything else tech-related! We can't wait to learn from you!

Here's the Scoop on my week...

It's hard to believe that Juliet and I have already finished our first week of school! This summer seems like it flew by. I can't say I'm ready for the Sunday routine of laundry, lunches, and lesson plans, but I have a great crop of kiddos this year, and I'm excited about what's to come!

Favorite Things Linky: Apps for a Flipped Classroom

This month, I want to share a few of my favorite apps to use in a flipped classroom! These are my go to apps to use with a whole classroom set of devices or with just a few devices!
Here is a super quick breakdown of how I use these apps in my classroom!

1. Plickers: This app is a quick assessment tool. Students have a card that they can turn to show A/B/C/D and it is linked to their name on your device. You ask a question (you can even project it if you want), your students show their card, and you scan your classroom. Their name lights up green if they got it right and red if they got it wrong! So easy!!

2. Chirp: This is a great app to use if you need to send out documents or photos out to your student devices. You simply hit the chirp button (with your sound on and your student device sound on) and BOOM, it is on their device! So handy!!

3. Nearpod: This app is one of my favorites. You can create a lesson in PowerPoint, save as JPEGs and upload as Nearpod slides. The Nearpod presentation that you create is interactive so students can write/draw on the slides. You can also use it as an assessment tool and gather live data. So perfect!!

I can't wait to see what your three favorite... anythings... are this week! Link up with the linky below!
